Honorary lecture by Leszek Balcerowicz on ‘Institutional Systems, Shocks and Economic Growth’

On April 6th Leszek Balcerowicz will deliver an honourary lecture on ‘Institutional Systems, Shocks and Economic Growth’ at the HSE.

Prof. Leszek Balcerowicz is a prominent Polish economist, former Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Poland. In 1989-1990 he carried out ‘shock therapy’ – one of the most successful reforms of the transition to a market economy on Post-Soviet territory.

In his lecture Professor Balcerowicz will outline the trajectories of economic growth and analyze the types of the systematic growth forces as well as the factors responsible for growth breakdowns. Leszek Balcerowicz will show how economies grow under different political systems and try to find the reasons for growth breakdowns as well as explain the differences in post-crisis growth.
