Vnesheconombank (VEB), the Russian national development bank, is a major financial institution that serves as a vehicle to implement the state investment policies of the Russian Federation. The Bank is called to enhance competitiveness of the economy and secure its diversification on an innovative basis. Vnesheconombank seeks to stimulate the development of strategically important sectors of the Russian economy by means of financing projects focused on infrastructure and innovations and actively participates in projects designed to increase the effectiveness of natural resource utilization, environmental protection and the improvement of the ecological situation. The Bank’s specific status, activity goals, functions and powers are explicitly set out in Federal Law “On Bank for Development” № 82-FZ dated  17.05.2007.
